Democrats are probably going to make gains in 2014,
winning back some of the governorships that they lost in 2010. Yet there is one
problems for Democrats, the elections come in the midst of Obama’s second term
and historically, the party that controls the presidency, under-performs in the
mid-term elections. It’s really too early to start making concrete predictions
on many of the races, but I do think I know which ones will prove the most
interesting: Arkansas, Illinois, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania
and South Carolina. For Illinois and South Carolina, the interesting bit could
just be the primary elections, if the Democrats in Illinois and Republicans in
South Carolina replace their incumbent with a more popular candidate, the races
could fade from interest.
